She was a graduate of Perry high school in 1928 and Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri.  <\/p>\n<p>She was the widow of David Charles Maughan, her loving husband of 61 years, who predeceased her in July 1996.  <\/p>\n<p>Blessed with an elegant contralto voice, she enriched the musical tradition of St. Stephen&#8217;s Church, Edina, with her participation as soloist and member of the choir.  She was a long-standing member of St. Stephen&#8217;s and participated in several activities there, attending faithfully until a few years ago.  <\/p>\n<p>Mary cherished and cultivated beauty in all things.  She was a skillful gardener and also enjoyed needlework and bridge.  She participated in activities of the Woman&#8217;s Club of Minneapolis, of which she was a 50-year member.  <\/p>\n<p>Mary was a fond and devoted friend and loving wife, and will be remembered for her thoughtfulness, graciousness and dignity.  <\/p>\n<p>She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Maughan Powell of Nantucket, Massachusetts and two grandsons, Charles Powell of Los Angeles and Philip Powell of Seattle.  <\/p>\n<p>A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at 2:30 pm, in the Chapel of St. Stephen&#8217;s Episcopal Church, 50th &#038; Wooddale, Edina.
