Mel Thompson is the 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Thompson of 1011 Holly street. He was born January 5, 1928, in Hartshorne, Okla., and attended grade school in Ponca City.
Before moving to Perry Thompson was in high school at Lake Charles, La., Ponca City, Shreveport, and Hartshorne. He is a member of the newly-organized Senior Scout unit and took part in the senior play this year. Thompson has been active in athletics throughout high school, working out in baseball, tennis, track, softball, and swimming.
Following graduation he expects to enter the armed forces, but after that he hopes to become a dentist.

Mel W. Thompson, 83, of Littleton, CO., died July 14, 2011.
He was born to Mr. and Mrs. John C. Thompson on January 5, 1928, in Hartshorne, Oklahoma. A graduate of Perry High School in the class of 1946, he lived in Perry and worked at Ditch Witch while attending Oklahoma State University.
His parents were owners of Thompson Furniture, which was on the south side of the Perry square for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; sons, Thomas, Jerald and John; and 2 grandchildren.
Memorial service will be Thursday, July 21, at 2 p.m. at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 S. Colorado Blvd. in Littleton. Contributions may be made to Scottish Rite Foundation, 1370 Grant St., Denver 80203 or charity of choice.
