Jay Gregg, one of the city school’s most versatile athletes, is undecided where he’ll enroll for the balance of his education. Jay, 18, was halfback and co-captain of the Maroon football team and was named to the second team in the all-conference selection: took first place in the Geary wrestling tournament, first in regional and first in the state: was co-captain of the baseball team and was named all-star catcher of the Garber tournament, has served as student council and FFA president, president of Letterman’s club, won Lions award in wrestling and has been in the National Honor society two years. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Gregg, 302 Cedar street. Jay has attended school here four years.

Jay O’Dell Gregg

October 29, 1939 – August 31, 1988

Jay 0. Gregg, 48, Broken Arrow, formerly of Perry, died unexpectedly Wednesday while playing racquetball in a Broken Arrow fitness center.

Born Oct. 29, 1939, in Sequin, Texas, he was reared and received his secondary education in Perry public schools of which he is a 1958 graduate. He attended the University of Oklahoma at Norman on a wrestling scholarship, and later switched to baseball. He graduated from the Oklahoma University School of Law in 1970, then moved to Tulsa where he practiced until moving his practice to Broken Arrow in April of this year.

Gregg was active in Broken Arrow in the Little League Baseball association for which he served as a coach and past president. He also coached little league football and soccer. He attended the Broken Arrow Church of Christ and is a former member of the First Christian church of Perry.

He was married March 17, 1973, in Tulsa to Lee Carter, who survives. Other survivors include one son, Stephen Gregg, of the home; two daughters, Kimberly Gregg of the home, and Kara Lee Gregg, who is attending Arizona State university in Tempe, Ariz.; his father and step-mother, C. 0. and Lue Gregg, Perry; four sisters, Janie Hanner, Owasso, Judy Harrah, Seguin, Texas, Joyce Rupp, Perry, and Jayne Buckley, Eureka Springs, Ark.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of Christ in Broken Arrow. Interment will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Grace Hill cemetery in Perry. Mr. Walter Buchanan will officiate. A trust fund has been established for his children, Kimberly and Stephen.
