Steve Lewis Kime

Class of 1972

Steve Kime, a motivational speaker and consultant to Fortune 500 companies, has worked in communications and marketing and had a 20-year career in the corporate broadcasting world. At Perry High, Steve was an outstanding track and field athlete and uses his experience as a runner to encourage and motivate audiences.

Steve gained fame by running 397 miles across Oklahoma on historic Route 66, raising funds for Special Olympics Oklahoma while dressed as Forrest Gump. He has run up Pikes Peak, Colorado, and through Death Valley, California. In his broadcasting career, he produced award-winning radio commercials.

He has a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from the University of Oklahoma, a master’s degree in Management from Oral Roberts University, and a degree from Elkins Institute of Broadcasting. He has written two books, “How Will They Remember Me?” and “Highway to Your Dreams!,” and has been recognized for his work on behalf of Special Olympics Oklahoma. He was awarded the honor of Steve Kime Day in Oklahoma on April 5, 2001, by Gov. Frank Keating.

As a Maroon, Steve was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, participated in Chorus, and played football and basketball before focusing on track and field. In 1971, a team of Steve, Dan Beasley, Dewayne Baumgart, and Darrell Habben ran a relay in 12:32, setting a PHS school record that stood for four years.
