Blanche (Lobsitz) Sutton

October 21, 1891 – February 26, 1989

Blanche Sutton, 97, of McLean, Virginia, died at the Arlington Hospital on February 26, 1989, due to the complications of a fall at her home.

Born October 21, 1891, in Kansas, she was the daughter of James and Ida Bell (Means) Lobsitz, who founded Perry’s Famous Store in October of 1893. After her graduation from Perry High School in 1909, she took the full classical course at the Kansas State University. Immediately after her graduation there, she was chosen as a member of the faculty at the University Preparatory school at Claremore, Oklahoma.

During her tenure at the University Preparatory school she met Richard “Dick” Sutton, who was also a teacher at the school. They were married in December, 1917, at Fort Worth, Texas, where Mr. Sutton was serving in the U.S.A. engineering corps, stationed at Camp Bowie. He preceded her in death in 1988.

In addition to being a teacher Mrs. Sutton was employed as a translator for the Department of Agriculture and as a Statistical Clerk for the government in Washington, D. C.

Burial will be at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
