Zavodny, Katherine (Mickish)

Katie Katherine Zavodny, 88, Perry, died at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Green Valley Nursing Home.

Born March 30, 1912, she was the daughter of Frank and Teresa (Tetyak) Mickish. She graduated from Perry High School in 1930 and attended college for two years, earning her teaching certificate.

She and Joe Zavodny were married April 22, 1936, in Perry, OK. Before her marriage, she taught at Starr and Fairview schools in Noble County. During her marriage, she was a homemaker and her husband farmed. Following her husband’s death in 1963, she managed the family farm, 12 miles north of Perry, until she retired. She lived on the farm for 60 years.

Mrs. Zavodny was a member of the Ceres Christian Church, Sunny View extension homemakers’ group, a 4-H adult leader, and a member of the Oklahoma Farmers Union.

Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law: Linda and Kenneth Kesner, Cleveland, OK, and Lila Brand and Cheryl Zavodny, both of Arlington, VA; three sons and daughters-in-law: Dr. Eugene and Laural Zavodny, Tulsa, Dr. Alfred and Esther Zavodny, California, and David and Nancy Zavodny, Perry: two sisters and brothers-in-law: Frances and Elmer Hansing, Perry, and Irene and Wayne Gumm, Tulsa; a brother and sister-in-law, A. J. “Bert” and Mildred Mickish, Edmond; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her mother in 1946; her father in 1947; one son, Jimmie; three brothers; and three sisters.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at the Ceres Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Bohemian Cemetery, seven miles north of Perry on Highway US 77. Gary Hill, pastor of Ceres Christian Church, will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Ceres Christian Church.
