Charles Robbins

– 16, was born October 31, 1929, in Osage county, east of Ponca City, to Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Robbins of route 3, Perry.
Charles plans to attend college after his graduation from Perry high school this month. He attended grade school at Valley Grove in Pawnee county and has attended Red Rock high school.
During his school years, Charles has participated in basketball and softball.
Charles Jefferson Robbins
October 31, 1929 – June 8, 1962
Charles J. Robbins, 32-year-old, resident of 1012 Wink Ave. Odessa, Texas, died June 8, 1962, as a result of injuries sustained when several joints of drill pipe knocked him to the ground while he was working as a truck driver north of Odessa. The accident occurred about 5:30 p.m. Friday while Robbins was unloading drill pipe from a Shorty Hall Rig Company truck.
Born in Osage county, Oklahoma on October 31, 1929, he was the son of Walter Arley and Alice Mable Miller Robbins. He graduated from Perry high school in 1946.
In October 1947 he joined the 179th infantry, the local national guard unit. While in the guard, he was assigned to take a special small arms repair course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, where finished third, scholastically, in a class of 400 students. By 1950 Charles was in charge of the 57 mm recoilless rifle section in company I. The 179th Regiment was known for its involvement in the 45th Infantry Division, and participation in the Korean War. Charles returned from overseas duty in Korea in June, 1952.
He and Ella “Alene” Wright were married in December 1955, in Odessa, Texas, where he began working as a truck driver for the Shorty Hall Rig Company. The couple were blessed with a daughter before Charles’ untimely death.
Survivors include: his wife, Alene; one daughter, Sandra of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Robbins of Perry; and two brothers, Albert Robbins of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Dallas Robbins of Perry.
Services are planned for 10 a.m. Monday in the Rix Funeral Home Chapel, Odessa, with burial to be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Odessa.
