Fred Flynn Waltermire

Fred F. Waltermire, 72, a retired drilling contractor, of 2103 Albans Road, Houston, Texas, died Thursday, March 23, 1972.
Born in Red Rock, Oklahoma on February 10, 1900, he was the son of Ellwood James and Mattie Eleanor Dunham Waltermire. Following his graduation from Perry high school in 1918, he enrolled as a military student at the University of Oklahoma, Norman. He was one of eleven students to pass the physical examination and was sent to the Great Lakes naval training station.
On July 25, 1924, Fred and Ruby McCall were married in Enid. Ruby was a former resident of Perry and was working at Foster’s Corner Drug. Fred had been working for several years in the oil field industry in Oklahoma. The couple were blessed with two daughters.
Fred continued his career by chartering three oil companies in Oklahoma City. The family moved to Houston in 1935 where Fred worked for the Ponca City based oil company, Continental Oil. In 1938 has was promoted to the general superintendency of the company’s Gulf coast drilling and production division.
He was a member of the Bethany Christian Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Ruby, Houston; daughters, Mrs. Millikan (Roberta) Jones, Fort Worth, Texas, Mrs. A. L. (Barbara) Salley, Houston; sister, Mrs. W. R. Fry, Guthrie, Oklahoma; brother, J. B. Waltermire, Lafayette, Louisiana; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Sage Road Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sopns with Dr. Lewis H. McAdow officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, Westheimer, Texas. Donations may be made to a favorite charity or church of choice.
