David Lawrence Shaffer would like to become a highway patrolman or police officer after a hitch in the Marine Corps. He is the 17-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray M. Shaffer, route 4, Perry, and was born July 1, 1943, in Sterling, Kan. Shaffer attended school in Great Bend, Kan., and Cleo Springs before coming to Perry in 1951. He has been a member of the PHS football, wrestling, track, and basketball squads. His hobby is raising game chickens, and his favorite subject is Problems of American Democracy.

David Lawrence Shaffer died on November 12th, 2010, at the age of 67.
He served his country as a Marine; then served his community as a Pastor and most of all he continually gave of everything he had to anyone in need.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Charlotte Eileen, in January 2009.
David is survived by his daughter Danette Eileen and his sons, David Ray, Douglas Charles and Derrick Eugene, their families, and many grand and great-grandchildren.
