Leroy George Kelley

October 13, 1915 – January 21, 1997

Funeral will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, at the First Christian church for Leroy Kelley, 81, long-time Perry resident.

Rev. Lynn Scott, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Grace Hill cemetery under direction of Brown Funeral home. Memorials may be made to the building fund of the First Christian church.

Kelley died at 9:45 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997, at Perry Memorial hospital. He was the son of Dr. Orval Kelley and his wife, Olinda, and was born in Kirksville, MO, Oct. 13, 1915. He moved to the Perry area in 1929.

Kelley was a 1933 graduate of Perry high school and graduated from Hills Business College in 1935. He was employed at Brownie Drug in Perry from 1931-35, Shell Oil Company, 1936-41; and the United States Postal Service, 1962-80.

He served in the National Guard from 1932-35 and 1937-38 and the United States Army, 1941-61.

Kelley was a member of the First Christian church. He served as church treasurer from 1965-92.

He received the Korean Service medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, United Nations Service medal, Armed Forces Reserve medal, Army Occupation medal, Germany, and the National Defense Service medal.
