Cecil Wenger Eby

March 15, 1896 – September 12, 1990

Cecil Wenger (aka Wayne) Eby, 94, died on September 12, 1990.

Born on March 15, 1896, in Wellsville, Kansas, he was the son of George Wenger and Ermina Eliza (Hutchinson) Eby. He was raised in Perry and in June, 1915, graduated from Perry high school with 10 other students at the Grand Opera House. Eby delivered a class oration to a crowd that filled the Grand to the doors.

He enlisted in the army on June 28, 1918, training at Camp Travis before shipping out with Company “B” Twentieth Machine Gun Battalion in World War I. He was wounded in action in France and released from service July 3, 1919. Returning to Perry, Eby worked as an implement salesman.

On May 20, 1920, Eby and Dorothy Daisy Baker were married in El Dorado, Kansas. They raised their family of a daughter and four sons near Garber, OK.

Eby was preceded in death by his wife in 1997. He is buried beside his wife at the Garber Cemetery, Garber, Oklahoma.
