Essie Louise (Shelton) Schmaltz

June 27, 1917 – July 15, 1996

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Catholic church in Stillwater for Essie L. Schmaltz, 79, Morrison.

Rev. Joe Townsend will officiate. Burial will be in Fairlawn cemetery at Stillwater under direction of Strode Funeral home. A prayer service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Strode Funeral home. There will be a viewing at the prayer service. The casket will not be opened at the church.

Mrs. Schmaltz died Monday, July 15, 1996, at Stillwater Medical Center.

She was born in Perry on June 27, 1917, the daughter of Ira and Katie (Blair) Shelton. She was a 1935 graduate of Perry high school and was married to Gottfried. P. Schmaltz on Feb. 6, 1937, in Stillwater.

Mrs. Schmaltz had resided in Duncan for two years before making her home on a farm west of Morrison. She was a member and was active in the Altar society at St. Francis Catholic church. She also was involved in the Morrison Senior Citizens group and the Farm Home Administration.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Donald G. Schmaltz and Dale P. Schmaltz, and two brothers, Bob Evans and Steve Evans.

In addition to her husband, of the home, survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Kendall Keith and Bevan Schmaltz, Hurst, TX; four grandchildren, Lance Schmaltz, Kristen Schmaltz, Jeff Otterstrom and Nanette Butler; five great-grandchildren, one sister, Velma Moore, Perry; and a number of nieces and nephews.
