Josephine Idelle (Wolleson) Landes

February 12, 1907 – September 16, 1994

Funeral was Monday morning at the First Christian church at Billings for Josephine Idell Landes, 87, who died Friday, Sept. 16, 1994, at her home near Billings.

Rev. Joe Howard officiated. Burial was in the Billings Union cemetery under direction of Sisson Funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Christian church of Billings, the Billings Ambulance Service or the organ fund of the First Christian church of Stillwater.

Mrs. Landes was born Feb. 12, 1907, at Portland, OR, the daughter of Robert Lewis and Idella (Clark) Wolleson. She attended schools in Butte, MT, and Denver, CO, before her family moved to the Perry community where she graduated from high school in 1926.

She received a lifetime teaching certificate from Central State university and taught at several rural schools near Perry. She and John B. Landes were married at Wellington, KS, on Oct. 25, 1929. The couple made their home in the Billings community.

Mrs. Landes returned to teaching in 1947 at Billings. She attended night classes and a summer term to complete requirements for a degree from Phillips university at Enid in 1957. She taught second grade at Billings until retiring at age 65.

She was an active member of the Billings Christian church, a life member of Eastern Star and a member of the Oklahoma Education association. She served one term as Worthy Matron in the Eastern Star organization and played piano accompaniment for many years at various school and community events.

Preceding her in death were her husband, John; her parents and two sisters.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law. Bob Landes, Enid, and John B. Jr. and Donna Landes, Garber; a daughter and son-in-law, Jodelle and Jack Stout, Stillwater; three grandsons and two granddaughters, Matt Landes, Oklahoma City; Kristi Landes Smith, Pampa, TX; Steve Stout and Bryan Stout, Oklahoma City; and Jill Stout, Glenpool; and five great-grandchildren, Amy, Kayla and Rebekah of Glen-pool; and Heather and Bre-Anna of Stillwater.
