Harley Arthur DeVilbiss

August 30, 1913 – May 17, 1962

Harley DeVilbiss, 48, Austin, Texas, formerly of Perry, was found dead Friday in a crashed airplane in Louisiana in the New Orleans area.

Devilbiss, another man and a pilot had taken off about 11 a.m. Thursday from Norco, LA, to fly 50 miles to Cortez, LA. Their plane failed to arrive. A sea and air search resulted in finding the plane in swamp country. The two other men in it were also killed.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. DeVilbiss, he was born August 30, 1913, at Humansville, MO. He was a 1934 graduate of Perry high school and served as a staff sergeant Btry A 92 Armd FA BN World War II.

He worked the past 22 years as a electrician for Shell Pipeline Co.

Survivors include his parents; his wife, the former Dorthy Shea of Perry; one son, Terry Dean of Austin, TX; and one daughter, Jill also of Austin.

Funeral was at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Wilke-Clay chapel, Austin, Texas. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Catholic cemetery in Perry, under the charge of Rev. John G. O’Brien, pastor of St. Rose of Lima Catholic church.
