Donald Lighty was born in Perry and attended Harmony grade school before coming to Perry high school. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lighty of Lucien, and intends to farm after graduation.

Donald went out for wrestling in 1945-46, and took part in the 1948-49 senior Christmas program. He is a member of the Future Farmers of America, and lists agriculture as his favorite subject.

In his spare time, Don likes to hunt squirrels.

Donald Eugene Lighty

December 11, 1931 – October 14, 2008

Donald E. Lighty, 76, retired City of Mulvane Electric Lineman and Maintenance Mechanic of Mulvane, KS, died Tuesday, October 14, 2008.

He was born in Oklahoma to Roy and Lillie Lighty on December 11, 1931. After attending Perry high school Lighty served as a Sergeant in the US Army in Korea.

Survivors include his wife, Donna; daughters, Cynthia (Steve) Rogers, Debra (Merrill) Parker, all of Mulvane; brother Everett Lighty of Perry, OK; grandchildren Robbie (April) Parker, LaShelle (Kirk) Brown, Kristi Parker, all of Mulvane, Ryan (Megan) Rogers of Olathe, Shawn (Sarah) Rogers of Derby; 3 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 17, 2008, at Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby, KS. Memorials may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
