Bernice Helen (Cockrum) Rice

December 2, 1912 – October 7, 1973

Mrs. Bernice Rice, 60, Belmont, Calif., formerly of the Perry area and a relative of several Noble county residents, died at 3:50 p.m. Sunday in a convalescent hospital in Menlo Park, Calif.

Graveside service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Cypress Lawn Memorial park cemetery, Belmont, under direction of Carl Mont funeral home of Belmont.

Mrs. Rice was born December 2, 1912, northwest of Perry, to Charles F. and Mary (Tontz) Cockrum. She was a Perry high school graduate. Following graduation from high school, she moved to Dallas, Texas, where she was employed by a radio station for a number of years.

She and Jack Bruton Rice were married February 12, 1937, in Williamson, Texas. They made their home in California. In 1968 Jack preceded her in death.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Brent Bell, Palo Alto, Calif.; her mother, Mrs. Mary Cockrum, Perry; six brothers, Lorren and Alvin Cockrum, Perry; Barren, Stroud; Milt, Georgetown, Texas; George, Del City; and Jim, Potwin, Kan.; four sisters, Mrs. Walter (Maxine) Pryor, Davis; Mrs. Oakley (Lenora) Price and Mrs. Leo (Marietta) Moran, both of Ponca City; and Mrs. Clarence (Gracie) McKee, Lucien; one grandson; and one aunt, Mrs. Grace DeVore, Perry.
