Esther Helen (Hirschman) Hodge

December 13, 1914 – October 7, 2000

Esther Hodge, 85, Perry, a lifelong resident of Noble County, died at 4:22 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at the home of her daughter, Mary Arnold, in Edmond, OK.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at Zion Lutheran Church, east of Perry, with Rev. Edd Wunderlich officiating. Burial will be at Grace Hill Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Sisson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hodge was born December 13, 1914, in Perry, the daughter of Herman H. and Karlena (Bamberger) Hirschman. She was a Perry High School graduate. She and Glenn Hodge were married Nov. 30, 1935, in Perry. She was well known for the pies she made and served at the Perry Livestock Barn restaurant, which she and her husband managed for over 20 years. She and her husband resided on their farm southeast of Perry until 1957, when they moved to 819 Maple Street in Perry.

In 1998, Esther moved to the Villa Apartments in Perry. She was a member of the Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Chuck Arnold, Edmond, OK, formerly of Perry; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Hodge, Perry; son-in-law, Jim Smith, Guthrie; grandsons and granddaughters and their spouses: Kim Arnold, Rogers, AR; Keith and Cindy Arnold, Neosho, MO; Kevin and Pat Arnold, Perry, OK; Corey and Deanna Smith, Perry, OK; Toby and Shannon Smith, Del City, OK; and Eric Smith, Oklahoma City, OK; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 9, 1995; her parents; one daughter, Carolyn Sue Smith; and one son, Leroy Hodge.
