Sherry Leona Smith plans to work during the summer and will enroll at Oklahoma State university this fall. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Smith, route 3, Perry. She was born June 16, 1949, in Perry. She was a member of the newspaper staff 1966-67; Thespians 1965-67; Student of the Month February 1967; student director of junior and senior plays; was records clerk for Thespians 1965-66; and teacher’s assistant 1963-67. English is her favorite subject and writing and collecting movie reviews are her hobbies.

Sherry Leona Smith

June 16, 1949 – September 3, 1971

Miss Sherry Leona Smith, 22, route 3, Perry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Smith, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday in a traffic accident near Stillwater.

Born June 16, 1949, southeast of Perry, Miss Smith had lived near Perry all of her life. She was a 1967 graduate of Perry high school and graduated from Oklahoma State university in 1970 with a bachelor of arts degree in secondary education. She did her practice teaching at Perry junior high school last year.

She was employed as secretary for the audio-visual office at Oklahoma State university and was engaged to marry John Becker of Enid.

She was a member of the Theater Guild at Oklahoma State university and a member of Zion Lutheran church.

Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William A. Smith, Perry; and one brother, Billy Joe Smith, Stillwater.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Zion Lutheran church with Rev. James Little, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran cemetery.
