Audre Madelynn (Douglass) Whitney

Audre Madelynn Whitney, 61, died in St. Louis, Missouri, on July 30, 1978.

Born June 5, 1917, in Rock, Kansas, she was the daughter of Stephen and Minnie Douglass. As a child she moved with her family to Oklahoma, first to Pawnee and then to Perry. She graduated from Perry High School in 1933.

In the late 1930s, Audre moved with her parents and siblings to St. Louis, Missouri, where she worked as a telephone operator.

In September, 1940, she married Ray E. Whitney in St. Louis, Missouri.

Her husband, father, and brother, Stephen Douglass, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Whitney) Boyd, and two sons, Douglass R. Whitney and Clayton P. Whitney, mother, Minnie (Douglass) Mellott, brothers Gerald Douglass and Paul Douglass, and sisters Lorrayn Verseman and Vada Jo Holland.

Funeral services will be held at the Union Ave. Christian Church, 733 Union Blvd on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with interment at Valhalla Cemetery, Bel-Nor, Missouri.
