Hazel (Powers) McBurney

December 22, 1892 – March 18, 1981

Hazel McBurney, 88, died on March 18, 1981, in Memphis, Tennessee.

Born December 22, 1892, in Oklahoma, she was the daughter of William John and Martha Jane (Walker) Powers. She graduated from Perry High School in 1912 and continued her education at Oklahoma A. & M.

On August 18, 1914, Miss Powers married Ralph McBurney, professor of chemistry at Oklahoma A. & M. They lived in Corvallis, Oregon, before moving in 1919 to Columbia, Missouri, where Dr. McBurney accepted a position as state bacteriologist in Missouri and was in charge of the public health laboratories at the University of Columbia. Their final move was to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he served on the faculty and as department chairman of the Medical College at the University of Alabama. He preceded her in death in 1964.

Survivors include their three sons, George William McBurney, Robert Powers McBurney, and Charles Walker McBurney.

Burial will be at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
