Vera “Josephine” (Hoffman) Owen

June 10, 1902 – December 27, 1956

Mrs. Vera “Josephine” Owen, 54, died at 1:45 a.m. Thursday in St. John’s hospital, Tulsa. Owen had been in ill heath in recent months and underwent surgery earlier this year.

Born June 10, 1902, in Oklahoma, she was the daughter of John “Nelson” and Ota (Rice) Hoffman. The Hoffman family settled near Garber shortly after the opening and in 1901 moved to Perry where Mr. Hoffman worked for the post office for the next 22 years.

She was a 1920 graduate of Perry High School and attended college for one year before marrying Leigh Sanders Owen on June 13, 1925. L. S. “Sandy” Owen was the son of an early-day Perry physician. They lived in Perry where they both worked for the oil industry; Leigh selling oil leases and Josephine as a stenographer. In 1944 they moved to Tulsa, OK.

In addition to her husband of the home in Tulsa, she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Edward Everett (Willa M.) Gibbens, Oklahoma City.

Burial will be at Grace Hill cemetery in Perry, OK.
