Helen Lucille (Maze) Bennett
December 9, 1938 – June 22, 2022
Helen L. Bennett, age 83, of Madison, Wisconsin, died June 22, 2022, at Meriter Hospital.
Born December 9, 1938, in Yuma, Arizona, she was the daughter of Jack and Helen Maze, who owned the Maze Printing and Office Supplies business in Perry during the 1950s. Active in Perry High School, Helen graduated in 1957.
At the age of 18, she met her cowboy, Ken Bennett, and they began their life adventure together that would last 54 years until his passing in 2014. They married in September 1959 and raised two daughters, Letitia and Cheri. Helen was an accomplished seamstress, cook, and gardener. She was an avid reader with a book collection that could rival a small library.
Her grandchildren have fond memories of extravagant Christmases spent at Grannie and Poppa’s house, classical music playing in the background, homemade cookies, and her granddaughter’s favorite, mint pineapple jelly, put up by Grannie. They especially enjoyed exploring the attic to find lost treasures that seemed to be from another era, asking curious questions about any and all relics they discovered.
Helen was a proud orchid grower, delighting in showing them off when they were in full bloom. Helen wasn’t afraid to speak her mind and would voice her opinion regardless of her audience. One always knew exactly where they stood with her. Helen’s last years have been an uphill health battle and her feisty nature was her best ally.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Letitia and Cheri, granddaughter Krista, grandson Jack, and great-grandson Weston and her beloved dog, Miss Daisy Mae.
She is predeceased by her parents, Jack and Helen Maze, and her husband, Kenneth Alan Bennett.
It was Helen’s choice to not have a service. Donations in her honor may be made to the Dane Co. Humane Society.
