Field Elison Smith

April 30, 1884 – November 18, 1918

Field E. Smith, 34, died November 18, 1918, in San Francisco, California, after an illness of one week of influenza.

Born April 30, 1884, in Kansas, he was the son of William T. and Mary Catherine (White) Smith.

After graduating from Perry High School in 1901, he continued his education at the Fazel Business College, Wichita, Kansas. He was the youngest member of the class and carried off the honor of having made a grade of 100 percent on two final tests. He worked in Ponca City, Oklahoma, in the real estate office of his brother, Mr. J. Flen Smith, followed by a move to Fort Supply, and a move to Minot, North Dakota, where he worked as a stenographer for the land office. His final move was to San Francisco in 1913 where he also worked as a stenographer. He was a member of the San Francisco Bar association.

Field was predeceased by his father. Survivors include his mother and his sisters Ida May, Anna, Ollie, and Beatrice Smith, Mrs. Britta Gaiser, Mrs. Lillie Stout, and Mrs. Belle Royce.

Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, November 21, at 10 o’clock, at the chapel at 1835 Golden Gate Ave., near Fillmore St., under the auspices of Mount Moriah Lodge, No. 44, F. and A. M.
