Clinton La Vergne Atherton
June 19, 1885 – November 29, 1974
Clinton L. Atherton, 89, former resident of 712 N. Duncan, Stillwater, Oklahoma, more recently of Rosewood Manor, died Nov. 29, 1974, in Stillwater Municipal Hospital.
Born June 19, 1885, at Pauline, Kansas, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Atherton. He graduated from Perry High School in 1904. He married the former Bessie Evans Sept. 25, 1914.
Most of his life he lived at Red Rock. He had managed the Foster Lumber Co. and the Farmers Cooperative Elevator for 21 years. He had served on the Board of Directors for the Union Equity Grain Co-op.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Perry; the International Order of Odd Fellows, Red Rock; and the Masonic Lodge, Red Rock.
He is survived by his wife; a son, James C. Atherton, 1116 Hillcrest Dr.; and a daughter, Mrs. William B. (Josephine) Diehm, Oklahoma City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Parker Funeral Home, Perry, with Kenneth Dye, minister of the Stillwater Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will be at Grace Hill Cemetery, Perry. Graveside rites will be conducted by members of the Masonic Lodge No. 308 of Red Rock.
