Harold Dean Victory

Harold Dean Victory died Saturday night, May 11, 1985, in a Gladewater, Texas, nursing home after a long illness.

Born Feb. 6, 1912, in Vivian, Louisiana, he finished high school at Perry, Okla., in 1930, and attended Oklahoma State University.

In 1932 he moved to Gladewater as a member of a pioneer family. He was office manager and secretary-treasurer of the Spencer-Harris Machine and Tool Co. in Gladewater from 1938 to 1958, when he became manager of the Gladewater Federal Savings and Loan Association. He retired in 1977.

He was a former treasurer of the First Baptist Church and a deacon. He was past president of the Gladewater Board of Education, serving from 1952 to 1967. In 1957, he was chairman of the Gladewater Gilmer-Aken Grassroots Study of Public Education. He was past president of the Gladewater Lions Club and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He served as president and secretary-treasurer of the Gladewater Public Library board and was a member of the library board for more than 40 years, serving longer than any other member. He was a longtime member of the Gladewater Chamber of Commerce and served on the City Appeals Board.

Survivors include one son, Dr. Harold Dean Victory Jr. of Lubbock.

Services for Harold Dean Victory, 73, of Gladewater, Texas, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Aultman officiating. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery in Gladewater, Texas.
