Gene Thompson has participated in wrestling, football, and baseball while in Perry high. Gene is the 17-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. K. F. Thompson, route 2, Perry. He was born in Perry Sept 7, 1935, and attended grade school at the Perry elementary school. While in high school he has been a member of the band and the F.F.A. He plans to work after graduation.

Gene Thompson, age 87, of Lubbock, Texas, and formerly of Seagraves, Texas, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2023.
He was born September 7, 1935, in Perry, Oklahoma, to the late Kenneth and Gladys (Bowman) Thompson.
Gene married his high school sweetheart, Bernell Feken, December 19, 1954, at the Methodist Church in Perry, Oklahoma. To this union of 68 years, five children were born.
In 1967, Gene’s work took the family on a move to Seagraves, Texas, with his work being custom combining. Gene harvested crops from Texas to Canada. He also worked in the oil field for various drilling contractors. Gene completed his work life working for Gaines County Precinct 1.
Upon retirement, Gene and Bernell enjoyed traveling in their RV to many places, including the Big Bend National Park, Texas Hill Country, and Ruidoso, New Mexico. Gene’s favorite travel destination was the Big Bend.
After residing in Seagraves for 54 years, Gene and Bernell moved in May 2021 to Lubbock, Texas.
Gene is survived by his wife Bernell, daughter Diann Hill (Tony) of Lubbock, and sons, David (Liz) of Midland, Aaron (Marenda) of Lubbock, Craig of Lubbock, and Troy of Seagraves, Texas, also grandchildren Rocky, Dusty, Derek, Katie, Emily, Lauren, Logan and Travis, great-grandchildren Leah, Jaxen, Connor, Lincoln, and great-great-grandchild Emilia.
He is preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Gladys Thompson, brothers Lyell, Jack, and Donald Thompson and sister Mariella Thompson Crews.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Gaines County Cemetery in Seagraves, Texas. Rev. Cam Givan will preside over the service.
