Marjorie Lau
– was born in Perry 18 years ago. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Lau, 612 Kaw, and has attended both grade and highschool in Perry.
She is a member of both the Red Hots and Walther League. She has been a member of the Red Hots since 1942 and was a student council member in 1940-41.
Miss Lau plans to attend Draughon’s business college in Oklahoma City after graduating from highschool.
Marjorie Orlene (Lau) Chandler
November 8, 1925 – April 30, 2024
Marjorie O. Chandler, age 98, of Enid, OK, was born November 8, 1925, in Perry, OK, to John and Louise (Tappe) Lau and passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at her home.
She attended school in Perry and graduated from Perry High School in 1944 and then attended Draughon’s Business College. Marjorie was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the Christ Lutheran Church in Perry. She worked for Colliers Magazine Company during WWII. She also participated in the war effort as a volunteer during WWII.
She moved to Enid in 1959 and worked for Champlin Petroleum Company and retired in 1981. After her retirement she worked for the Garfield County School Board in various positions, along with part-time jobs. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and later St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Marjorie married Joe Chandler July 16, 1969, in Guthrie, OK, at Zion Lutheran Church. Along with her husband Joe, she volunteered in various community outreach programs such as Meals on Wheels and International Lions Club.
She had lived through the Great Depression, WWII, the Korean War, and the many wars that followed. She got to see a man land on the moon and technology advance beyond her wildest dreams. Marjorie loved all her pets and can always be considered a lady who loved her animals as if they were her children. Marjorie and her husband Joe had many adventures in their lives and they both loved and showed their faith in Jesus Christ.
Marjorie is survived by her husband Joe of the home, son Jimmy Balisle, Richard and Sharon Berry and family, Jeff and Amy and their family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Esther, and her husband, Sid Berry.
A Celebration of Life Service for Marjorie will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with Rev. David Reber officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
