Born June 6, 1948, at Blackwell, Sandra Lea Sandy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Sandy, 722 Grove street. She was a member of Red Hots 1963-64; FHA 1964-66; FTA 1953-64 and girls ensemble, 1963-64. She served as reporter for FHA and on the makeup committee for the junior-senior plays. Her favorite subjects are drama, home ec and art. Hobbies include painting in oil, cooking and sewing. She plans to enroll at Oklahoma State university to study art education and home economics education.
Sandra Lea (Sandy) Boyer
June 6, 1948 – December 25, 1995
Sandra Lea (Sandy) Boyer, 47, Blackwell, formerly of Perry, died Monday, Dec. 25, 1995, at Blackwell Regional hospital.
Mrs. Boyer was born June 6, 1948, in Wichita, KS, the daughter of Fred and Dorothy (Abby) Tontz. Shortly after her birth, she was adopted by Eldon and Marge Sandy. She attended Blackwell schools until moving to Perry with her parents.
She was a 1966 graduate of Perry High School and earned her bachelor of science degree from Oklahoma State University in 1970. She was married to Bill Adams and the couple made their home in Houston, TX. She returned to Blackwell in 1979.
On May 19, 1979, she and Allen Lee Boyer were married in Arkansas City. The Boyers established a home in Blackwell. Mrs. Boyer renewed her teaching certificate and earned a master’s degree in art at OSU.
Mrs. Boyer taught art at Blackwell High School and was instrumental in helping children paint murals on buildings in downtown Blackwell for the city’s centennial celebration. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Blackwell.
She participated in numerous fund-raisers to benefit the American Heart Association, and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the American Lung Association. Her hobbies included riding her horse, Jake.
Funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday in the auditorium at Blackwell High School Rev. George Wood, pastor of the First Christian Church of Blackwell, will officiate. Burial will be in the Blackwell IOOF cemetery. Memorials have been established to benefit the Blackwell city library, the Top of Oklahoma Historical Society, or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Mrs. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Eldon and Marge Sandy; and two sons, Jason Sandy Adams and Joshua Eldon Adams Boyer.
Among survivors are her husband, of the home; three daughters, Holly Ford and Lori “KiKi” Boyer, both of Blackwell, and Teneil Garza, Washington, KS; two sons, Zeke Boyer and Keith Boyer, both of Blackwell; her mother, Dorothy Tontz, Wichita, KS; four brothers, Greg Sandy, Blackwell, Art Abby and Dale Abby, both of Wichita, and Leon Tontz, Albuquerque, NM; and two grandchildren.
