Larry D. Tovar

Larry D. Tovar, 87, was born September 6, 1937, in Fort Quilman, Texas, in a cave on Neeley’s Ranch in the Sierra Madre Mountains to Urbano Diaz and Rita Tovar. He passed from this life September 29, 2024, at his home in Perry.

Larry grew up in Perry and graduated from Perry High School in 1959. He served in the Army National Guard from 1958-1962.

He and Gaylene Nichols were married January 16, 1976, in a chapel at the Methodist Church in Stillwater. He is the father of two sons and three daughters: Victor Tovar, Melinda Foshee, Todd Tovar, Michelle Green and Melody Kloxin.

He was employed in construction, remodeling, hotel management for Best Western, maintenance manager for Perry hospital, and worked as assistant manager and sales for Ditch Witch of El Paso.

When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed playing golf, especially with his grandsons, and loved spending time with all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed OU football, cooking on the grill for his family, loved a neat lawn, and was meticulous in woodworking and remodeling construction. He was a member of the Perry and Enid Elk’s Lodge.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by his sons and daughters and their spouses: Victor Tovar and wife Kimberly and Melinda Foshee and husband Jimmy, all of Perry; Todd Tovar and wife Shannon, Bixby, Oklahoma; Michelle Green and husband Herbert, Harrah, Oklahoma; and friends who were like family members, Bryan and Linda Cox; grandchildren: Jacob Tovar, Jared Tovar, Erin Buono, Faith Tizareno, Taylor Parker, Moriah Alamzan, Kylee Abele, Mia Tovar, Michael Green, Amanda Keener, Josiah Kloxin and Judah Kloxin; and his late son Joshua’s family: Sean and Amy Tovar Anderson and Mykaela; 16 great-grandchildren and another one due in October; and sisters: Magdalena Arevalo, Perkins; Martha Perev, Juarez, Mexico; and Carmen Romo, California; and his pet dog, Gus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Joshua Tovar; and siblings: Hector Tovar, Eleazar Diaz, Isaac Tovar and Aaron Tovar.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2024, at the First Christian Church in Perry. Bryan Cox will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater.
