LaWanda Zavodny is undecided about what to do after graduation but she is considering taking a business course. LaWanda is the 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Zavodny of route one, Red Rock. She was born June 12, 1935, at Red Rock and attended grade school at Pleasant Valley. While in high school she was a member of the band, the annual staff, student council, annual play cast, and served as freshman class secretary-treasurer, and annual business manager. LaWanda also participated in the senior class assembly.

LaWanda Anne (Zavodny) Norman

June 12, 1935 – January 5, 1986

LaWanda Ann Norman, 50, 1215 Elm street, an employee of the circulation and advertising departments of The Perry Daily Journal, died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph Medical Center at Ponca City.

Born at Red Rock, June 12, 1935, she was the daughter of Adolph and Mary Zavodny. She and Tom Norman were married Dec. 17, 1955, at Marland. The Normans had resided in Texas, Rhode Island, and Iceland, before moving to the Perry community in 1973.

She had been a member of the staff of The Journal since Nov. 9, 1977.

In addition to her husband, of the home, survivors include two sons, Greg Norman, Perry, and Joel Norman, Oklahoma City; a daughter, Laurie Norman, Perry; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Joel (Nancy) Norman, Oklahoma City; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Zavodny, Red Rock; one sister, Peggy Porter, Houston, Texas; and two nieces, Jonna Porter and Julie Porter, both of Houston.

She was preceded in death by one sister.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral chapel. Mike Watters, minister of the Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be at the Bohemian cemetery. Memorials may be made to aid cancer research.
