Gladys J. (Divine) Neuerburg

Gladys J. Neuerburg, 91, died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at the Garden Valley Retirement Village, Garden City, Kansas.
Born Oct. 10, 1906, at Fallis, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Samuel Bender and Georgia Stipp (Sumner) Divine. She attended rural schools in Lincoln and Logan counties before moving to Perry, Okla., where she graduated from high school. After attending Oklahoma A. & M. College at Stillwater, Okla., she became a teacher in Noble County.
On June 23, 1927, she and William Neuerburg were married at Stillwater, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker and also worked as a bookkeeper in the grain business with her husband, first at Gansel, Okla. In 1942, they moved to Hooker, Okla., where they owned grain elevators.
In 1952, she and her husband moved to Garden City and bought a ranch southwest of Holcomb. Her husband died Dec. 30, 1960, at Holcomb. She retired in 1980 when she sold her interests in the ranch to her grandchildren.
Mrs. Neuerburg was a member of Garden City First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Kleysteuber-Olomon Circle and was a charter member of the Finney County American Association of Retired Persons.
She is survived by a daughter, two brothers, a sister, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Thelma Rapp, two grandsons and five brothers.
Graveside service for Gladys J. Neuerburg, 91, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Valley View Cemetery, with the Revs. Bob Cousins and Jack Divine officiating. Memorials may be sent to the Thelma Rapp Nursing Scholarship Fund at Garden City Community College.
