Sloan Robertson Jackson

Sloan R. Jackson, 206 W. Orange St., Davenport, Florida, died Saturday, Feb. 10.
Born in Fort Worth, Texas, on September 1, 1907, he was the son of Harry Cabbell and Sarah M. Love Jackson. The family came to Perry in 1920 where H. C. was manager of the Perry Mill and Elevator. Following Sloan’s graduation from Perry high he continued his education at Oklahoma university, Norman. While in college he was a member of Company C of the 158th band and artillery. He pledged Phi Kappa Psi and served as its president in 1930. After receiving a B.S. in civil engineering he continued post graduate work for one year.
His work career began with General Foods in Oklahoma City as a representative. In August, 1933, he was transferred to Woodward, where he met his future wife, Frances “Frankie” Fitzhugh. They were married in February, 1936. He continued working for General Foods and was transferred to Lawton, Oklahoma, in 1938 and Amarillo, Texas, in 1940.
Sloan enlisted with the Navy and served in WWII from March 1943 to December 21, 1945. Following his discharge he and Frances moved to Dallas, Texas, where he worked as a retail farming assistant for the Wholesale General Feed Company.
After Frances’ death in 1984, Sloan moved to Davenport, where he was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Harry and Milton Jackson.
He was survived by a niece, Frances Fossan, San Francisco.
Burial was at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
