William Newton Lynch

November 3, 1911 – November 17, 1989

William “Bill” Newton Lynch, 78, died November 17, 1989, in Yucaipa, California.

Born November 3, 1911, in Englewood, Kansas, he was the son of Charles Wesley and Frances Folsom Mott Lynch. The family moved to Perry about 1925. Following his graduation from Perry high in 1929, he attended the Oklahoma A. & M college for two years, where he was a member of the Alpha Kappa Psi social fraternity.

He began working in Perry at the Treeman and Munger green house. Back in Perry he became acquainted with a 1932 PHS alumni, Wilma Katherine Wetzel, and they were married August 25, 1934, in Chandler, Oklahoma.
In October 1934, he and Wilma’s brother, Nick Wetzel, took over the Treeman and Munger green house, under the business name of the Perry Greenhouse. They handled a complete line of flowers and nursery stock.

After almost nine years of managing the Perry Greenhouse, Bill was drafted into the Army signal corps. During his two and one half year military service the greenhouse was managed by Wilma with the help of her brother, Nick Wetzel. Upon Bill’s discharge they continued the Perry Greenhouse for another year before selling it in April 1947 and moving to Yucaipa, California. They owned and operated Lynch’s Flower Shop.

Bill’s wife, Wilma, passed away August 12, 1967. He married Ethyl June McAlaster in February 1969 and continued operating the flower shop until 1974.

He was active in the Yucaipa community with membership in the Masonic Lodge #726, Scottish Rite Shinner Al Malaikah Shrine Temple of San Bernardino, Charter member of the Yucaipa Elk’s Lodge #2389, and Yucaipa Lions Club, member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Independent Order of Foresters.

Survivors include his wife, June E. Lynch, Yucaipa, California; mother, Frances Lynch, of Oklahoma; and three brother, Charles, Howard, and Robert Lynch all of Oklahoma,.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., November 21, 1989, at the Masonic Lodge #726, 13669 California St. Yucaipa, California. Interment will be in Desert Lawn Cemetery, Calimesa, California.
