Frances Ann (Skalenda) Mooter

Frances A. Mooter, 81, of 3006 McNiel, Wichita Falls, Texas, died in a Wichita Falls nursing home.

Born in Perry on Nov. 7, 1912, she was the daughter of Joseph and Theresa Skalenda. They came from Petrograd, Russia, before the Bolshevik revolution.

Following Frances’ graduation from Perry high school in 1930, on Dec. 28, 1930, she married 1929 PHS alumni, Edwhite “Ed” Conrad Mooter. To this union a son and a daughter were born. The family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, in March, 1940, where Ed went to work as a bookkeeper for the Bovalene Gasoline Company.

Frances was a licensed real estate agent and had her broker’s license in the early 1950s. She worked at the Midwestern University Clinic for Dr. Clifford Burross from 1960 to 1976.

Her husband, Ed, died May 5, 1978. After her husband’s death, she operated the family business, Calvin Gas Co. She was a member of the Wichita Falls Board of Realty and Texas Gas Association.

She was a Presbyterian and a member of the Pioneer Club at Rolling Meadows Retirement Community.

Survivors include a daughter, Patti Bryant of Wichita Falls; a son, Kenneth E. of Dallas; two sisters, Rose Horn of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Dorothy Warner of Guthrie, Okla.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Hampton-Vaughan Funeral Home with Dr. Isaac Butterworth, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Arc, 3307 Buchanan St., Wichita Falls, Texas 76308.
