Kara Lee (Coldiron) Eikleberry

Kara Lee Eikleberry, 84, died on Friday, December 4, 1997, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Born in Red Rock, Oklahoma on October 2, 1914, she was the daughter of Dr. Daniel F. and Daisy Lemon Coldiron. Following her graduation from Perry high school in 1931, she attended Maryville college in Maryville, Tennessee for two years and graduated from Oklahoma A. & M., Stillwater. While at Oklahoma A. & M. she was named as one of 25 pledges of the Aggiettes, co-ed pep organization.
On January 18, 1936, she and Robert Woodrow Eiklebarry of Nowata, Oklahoma, were married in Stillwater. Their union was blessed with two sons and two daughters. Robert was associated with the soil conservation service and consequently the family lived in many different places: Marysville and Hiawatha, Kansas, Pakista, and finally Lincoln, Nebraska.
In 1961 Kara was one of five chosen by Gov. Frank Morrison of Nebraska for a 3-year term on an advisory committee for Public Institutions and Public Welfare. The second year of her term she served as vice-chairman of the committee, and the third year as chairman. In 1965 Kara was again appointed to this committee, where she served as chairman until June, 1969. In December 1965, she was elected secretary of the National Council of Public Welfare Board Members, American Public Welfare Association, for a two-year term through 1967.
Kara and Robert divorced in 1971. In 1973 Kara was elected secretary of the Nebraska Welfare Assn., Chapter V.
Survivors include: daughters, Lana Jones, Arlington, Va., Jane Eikleberry, Tucson, Ariz; sons, Mark Perry, Honolulu, Daniel Eikleberry, California.
