Ruth Marie Amelia (Hauer) VonDielingen
April 28, 1917 – March 10, 1980
Ruth VonDielingen, 62, of 637 South Erie, Wichita, Kansas died March 10, 1980.
Born on April 28, 1917, in Lawton, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Rev. Edward C. and Rose Marie Zerbe Hauer. She was baptized in the Lutheran parsonage at Lawton, Oklahoma, by her father. The family moved to Perry in June, 1919, where her father was installed as pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Christ Church. She attended the Lutheran school through the 8th grade and graduated from Perry high in 1934. While in high school, she won multiple awards in oratorical and scholastic contests.
Ruth continued her education at St. John’s Lutheran College at Winfield, Kansas, where she graduated in 1937 and moved to St. Louis, Missouri to begin her work career. She was employed as a teacher at the Emmasus Lutheran school and to perform secretarial duties for the church. On November 27, 1942, after four years of service at Emmasus, she and Paul VonDielingen were married. They moved to Miami, Oklahoma where her husband, a graduate of Concordia Theological Seminary in St. Louis, assumed pastoral duties for the Lutheran church. Over the next 38 years, Paul and Ruth served in the pastoral ministry of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in Joplin, Missouri, and Wichita, Kansas.
Survivors include: her husband, Paul; daughters, Elaine (Vic) Bryant, Elisa (John) Schendel, and Karen (Robert) Grefe; son, David (Joyce) VonDielingen; grandchildren, Erika (Jerome) Schulz, Rick (Laurie) Richter, Ellen (Amorak Huey) Schendel, Sarah (Kevin) Johnson, Joel Schendel, Ann (Jack) Zaremba, Beth (Mason) Linderbaum, Jen (Carl) Dement, Erin VonDielingen, and James VonDielingen; and 12 great-grand children.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on March 13th at The Trinity Lutheran Church, 611 South Erie, Wichita, Kansas. Pastor Calvin Reinke, of the Trinity Lutheran Church and pastor John Pool, of The Ascension Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. A memorial fund has been established in her name and memory with the Trinity Lutheran Church.
