Juanita (Shepherd) White

April 17, 1903 – April 14, 1974

Mrs. Juanita White, 70, Golden City, Missouri, died Sunday afternoon, April 14, 1974, at the Barton County Memorial Hospital in Lamar, Missouri after a short illness.

Born in Sumner, Oklahoma on April 17, 1903, she was the daughter of Miriam K. and Mary Elizabeth Poole Shepherd. Following her graduation from Perry High in 1921, she began her teaching career at Maramec, Oklahoma. She taught there for two years before earning a B. S. in Home Economics from Oklahoma University, Norman. She was outstanding at the university where she was a member of Omicron Nu Delta Pi, educational fraternity and Phi Beta Kappa, national scholastic fraternity. Juanita taught Home Economics for two years at Haskell, Oklahoma.

On July 20, 1930, she and Bilbra Elmer White were married at the First Methodist church in Pawnee, Oklahoma. Elmer was a graduate of the University of Arkansas. They lived most of their married life in Golden City, Missouri where they raised their son, Bruce. Elmer passed away in 1946. Following his death Juanita went back to teaching. She retired in 1973 from the Golden City High School, after teaching home economics there since 1946.

Her son, Bruce, of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada and two grandchildren survive.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First Presbyterian Church, Golden City, Missouri. The Rev. Robert McCombs will officiate, and burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery, Golden City, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the Heart Fund.
