Ruth B. (Curl) Curtis

Ruth Curl Noret Curtis died October 7, 1994 in Oklahoma City.

Born in Ransom, Illinois on May 25, 1906, she was the daughter of Vernon Bell and Clarabel Garver Curl. She graduated from Perry high in 1923.

She attended Wesley Nursing school in Oklahoma City, and completed her training at Morningside Hospital in Tulsa where she received her RN certification in 1928. Her career as a nurse spanned most of her years, including serving as school nurse for the Putnam City Schools from 1942 – 1948.

In December, 1928, she and Cleland C. Noret were married in Oklahoma City. To this union a son and a daughter were born. Cleland died in June, 1943. Later she married Joseph Alexander Curtis. They lived in Orlando, Florida from 1953 – 1968 and were active square dancers, with Joe calling square dances for many years. Joe died in September, 1968.

After Joe’s death, she moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico where she lived with her sister until returning to Oklahoma City in 1979.

Survivors include: her son, Cleland C. Noret of Modesto, California; her daughter, Ruthann Fairbairn-Roberts of Oklahoma City; her step-daughter, Minnie Jo Horwich of Santa Fe, New Mexico; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many admirers.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Bill Merritt Funeral Home in Bethany, with interment in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Gotha, Florida. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
