George Alfred Foster, Jr.

April 5, 1903 – December 25, 1958

George A. Foster, 55, of Alvin, Texas, was killed Christmas day in a traffic accident which took the lives of three men and a woman near Texas City, Texas.

Born in Perry on April 5, 1903, he was the son of George Alfred and Sarah Rebecca Deppen Foster. He attended Perry high with the class of 1923 with the accolade of being a star football tackle.

On Sept. 11, 1926, he and a fellow ’23 PHS graduate, Tena Dix, were married here.

Foster operated a lease service and drilling contracting firm at Alvin. He had worked in Oklahoma, Texas, and the West Indies before going to Alvin in 1940.

He was a member of the Presbyterian church, Masonic lodge, the Houston club, and the Alvin Golf and Country Club.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Sally, a sophomore at the University of Texas; his mother, Mrs. George A. Foster Sr.; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Savage; and a brother, Ralph Foster Sr., all of Perry.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the First Presbyterian church, Perry, with Rev. Ernest Ackerman, minister-elect of the city church, will officiate at last rites. Burial will be in Grace Hill cemetery.
