Nellie Melvina (McGehee) Clark

February 26, 1902 – January 29, 1995

Nellie M. Clark, 92, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 1995, in Westhaven Nursing Home, Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Born in Perry on Feb. 25, 1902, she was the daughter of John Lee and Rebecca E. (Hill) McGehee. She was educated in Red Rock, Perry, and Oklahoma State University, then taught in Noble County rural schools.

On July 28, 1926, she married John W. Clark in Ponca City, Oklahoma. They farmed near Red Rock, until 1933, when they moved to Coffeyville, Kansas. They moved to Sedan, Kansas in 1936.

Their son died in 1938, and the Clarks moved across the state line to South Coffeyville and lived there for almost 40 years. Following her husband’s death in 1976, Nellie moved to Stillwater to be near her sisters.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and, in addition to her husband and son, was predeceased by three sisters and one brother.

Survivors include a niece, Evelyn Smith and her husband Charles of Bartlesville; a nephew, Donald L. McGehee and his wife Imogene of Stillwater; two great-nephews; two great-nieces; two great-great-nephews; and three great-great-nieces.

Graveside services are planned Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kan. The Rev. Randy McGehee will officiate at the services.
