Walter “Jay” Gaskill Jr.
April 28, 1905 – June 13, 1953
Walter Jay Gaskill of Beaver, Louisiana, passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana, Saturday, June 13, at about 2:10 a.m.
Born in Noble county on April 28, 1905, he was the son of Walter J. and Kathering Kirby Gaskill. Following his graduation from Perry high school in 1924 he worked as a salesman for J. C. Penney and as a car salesman.
He was a veteran of World War II having served for 2 year 9 months and 9 days with the Field Artillery. He was discharged in October 1943 at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana, with a medical discharge.
On September 7, 1952, he and Gladys Johnson, a nurse, were married in Beaver, Louisiana.
He is survived by his wife, of Beaver; his father, W. J. Gaskill of Peary, Oklahoma; two sisters, Mrs. Opal Kirkham of Tyler, Texas, and Ruby who resides in Ohio; one brother Peary Gaskill of Wyoming.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. June 14, at the church of Christ at Cypress with Bro. Sidney Mayeux officiating. Interment was in the Cryer Cemetery near Oakdale, Lousiana.
