Billy LeFurgey

– son of Mr. and Mrs. Charley LeFurgey of Perry, was born in Perry on Sept. 4, 1918, and attended the elementary grades in Hunter, Hew Hope, and Freemont rural schools. He attended high school in Perry. During his high school career he was a member of the Future Farmers of America. Following graduation he expects to work on the farm.

September 4, 1918 – January 15, 1991

William C. LeFurgey, 72, of 42 Anderson Ave. Worcester, Massachusetts, died Tuesday, January 15, 1991, in St. Vincent Hospital after an illness.

Born in Perry, Oklahoma, on September 4, 1918, he was the son of Charles Lester and Margaret Ellen (Anglemyer) LeFurgey. He graduated from Perry high school in 1937 and began working on the family farm.

In September, 1940, William set out for a year’s active military training with Noble County’s complement for C Battery, 158th Field Artillery, of the Oklahoma National Guard. In 1941 C Battery was transferred to Camp Berkley in Texas, followed by Camp Pine, New York, and Camp Pickett in Virginia, before serving in Germany until September, 1945.

On June 3, 1946, he and Marjorie Torigan Valva were married at St. Stephen’s church in Worcester, Massachusetts, where they made their home. Mr. and Mrs. LeFurgey would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary June 3.

William was a machinist more than 35 years. He worked the last eight years for Anderson Bruch Co., and previously at the former Worcester Pressed Steel Co., and the former U. S. Steel Co. He retired in 1945.

He was a member of St. Stephen’s Church, and the United Steel Workers of America, AFL-CIO

Survivors include: his wife, Marjorie; a son, Allen W. LeFurgey of Worchester; a sister, Stella Pricer of Perry, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be tomorrow from Mercadante Funeral Home, 370 Plantation St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton St. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. The family requests flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Research Fund, in care of Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology, Maple Avenue, Shrewsbury, MA, 01545.
