Kenneth Evans

– son of Mrs. Mabel Evans of Perry, was born in Sumner on Nov. 16, 1918. He attended the elementary grades in Sumner and Perry and attended high school in Perry. During his high school career he went out for wrestling, football and basketball. Following graduation he expects to attend Tulsa University.

Kenneth Francis Evans

November 16, 1918 – January 29, 2001

Kenneth Francis Evans Sr., 82, died January 29, 2001, in Norman, Oklahoma.

Born in Sumner, Oklahoma, on November 16, 1918, he was the son of Francis Marion and Mabel C. Allen Evans. He graduated from Perry High school in 1937 and moved to Ada, Oklahoma, for employment.

On April 4, 1937, he and Opal Winifred McFarland were married in Winfield, Kansas. They were blessed with three children.

Evans served in the United States Navy during World War II. After his discharge, he attended the University of Texas. He later worked for Amoco Oil Corporation for 40 years.

After retiring from the oil company in 1979, Evans worked for Williams Brothers Engineering of Tulsa.

Evans was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ada, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was past president of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ada and served as lieutenant governor of his division in the Texas-Oklahoma district of Kiwanis International.

Evans had been a resident at the Norman Veterans Center since January of 1999.

Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Opal; one son, Ken Evans, Jr; his daughters, Karen Evans of Hutchinson, KS, and Kathy Tatum, of Madisonville, TX; and eight grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Sumner, Oklahoma. Memorial contributions can be made to the Patient Enhancement Fund, Norman Veterans Center, P. O. Box 1668, Norman, Oklahoma 73070.
