Shirley Marie (Goodwin) Valdez
October 27, 1946 — March 15, 2025
Shirley Marie Goodwin Valdez departed this life on March 15, 2025, in Perry, Oklahoma where she had been a longterm resident of the community.
Born on October 27, 1946, at the Stillwater hospital, she was the daughter of Shirley James Goodwin and Mary (Chenoweth) Goodwin. She was their first child and oldest of four. Named after her father, the family used the nickname “ShirMarie” for her to differentiate the two of them.
Shirley was a graduate of Perry High School, and a graduate of Central Arizona College with a degree in nursing. She worked as a registered nurse in the local and surrounding communities for over thirty years. She was a very empathetic person and focused on caring for others, which made her perfect for her chosen profession.
She loved being a grandmother, or “Nanny” as she was known. She was a very hands on grandmother and spent countless hours watching and raising children.
A founding member of Kaw Street Chapel, her faith was very important to her. She loved good hymnal music and studied the bible diligently. Reading was her favorite activity, other than day dreaming.
Proceeding her in death were: her parents, Shirley James and Mary Goodwin; her brother, Miles Goodwin; and her grandson Jabril Blount.
Survivors include: her daughter, Patricia Martin (Chris) of Roswell, GA; grandsons, Tripp, Brayden, and Trent of Roswell, GA; and granddaughter, Grace of Roswell, GA. Also surviving are her beloved granddaughter, Kara Peterman of Perry, OK, and her four daughters, Joanna, Abbygail, Mary Elena, and Nora.
Services will take place at the Dighton-Marler Chapel on Saturday, March 22 beginning at 10 a.m.
