George Spraberry has made plans to enter Northern Oklahoma Junior college for two years before enrolling at the University of Nebraska.
George, son of the Perry school superintendent, was born Aug. 23, 1930, in Dewey, Oklahoma. He is a member of the Order of DeMolay and Methodist youth fellowship, and has taken an active role in school organizations.
He has been a member of the band since 1945, serving this year as student director, took part in the Annual follies, senior play, Spanish class activities, and belongs to the Future Teachers association.
George Ezra Spraberry, Jr.
August 23, 1930 – November 12, 1998
George E. Spraberry Jr. 68, died Nov. 12, 1998, of a heart attack at Charlton Methodist Hospital in Dallas. He spent the last day of his life helping at-risk students of the PACE School in Duncanville, Texas.
Born in Oklahoma on August 23, 1930, he was the son of George E. Spraberry, Sr. and Julia D. Davidson Spraberry. Following his graduation from Perry high in 1948, he received a bachelor’s degree in music from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1953 and a master’s degree in counseling in 1960.
From 1953 to 1964, Mr. Spraberry taught in public schools in Cleveland, Okla. He joined the Duncanville, Texas district in 1965 as band director. In 1974 he became a counselor at Reed Junior High School, also in Duncanville.
He retired in 1989 to care for his aging parents but returned to the school district in 1993 to help start PACE School. The new school was designed to keep seventh- to 12th-graders from dropping out.
Mr. Spraberry is survived by a sister, Stella Andersen of Dallas.
Services were in Dallas, Texas and Prague, Oklahoma, where he was buried November 17 at the Prague Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the George E. Spraberry Memorial Scholarship Fund, at the PACE School, 815 Fairlawn, Duncanville, Texas 75116.
