Another Perry high school senior to receive a diploma this year is Marjorie V. Smith, now confined to bed because of illness. She is the 18-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Smith, 735 Grove street.

Marjorie has been finishing the last few weeks of her school work at home, and will get a diploma along with the rest of the members of her class. She was born in Valley Center, Kansas, and received her first eight years of schooling in Costa Mesa, Calif.

During her senior year she has been serving as secretary to the Distributive Education club. She is also a member of the Order of Rainbow for Girls, the Perryscope staff, the Future Teachers association, and the Y-Teens. Marjorie reports that bookkeeping is her favorite subject at PHS.

She appeared in the Spanish class play during the past school year. Marjorie states that she hopes to further her education at a business college.

Marjorie Mears, 56, 2985 E. 57th P1., Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 1986.

Born in Valley Center, Kansas on April 26, 1930, she was the daughter of Harry Cleveland and Viola L Leighan Smith. After graduating from Perry high in 1949 she moved to Oklahoma City, where she worked as a bookkeeper.

On July 24, 1951, she and Cpl. James Mark Mears were married in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Following their wedding trip, James reported to Camp Stoneman, California for overseas duty and Marjorie returned to Perry. The couple made their home in Tulsa after James’ discharge. They were blessed with three children.

Marjorie was the beloved wife, mother, and also an artist.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Perry, OK.

Survived by: her husband, James M. Mears, of the home; 3 children, Leigh Anne Hale, Tulsa, OK, Linda Sue Mears, of the home, Mark Steven Mears, Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Stephanie and Eric Hale, Steven James Mears; mother, Viola Smith, Greeley, CO; sister, Billie Sue Smith, Greeley, CO; 2 brothers, Charles V. Smith, Perry, OK and Jerry Lee Smith, Greeley, CO; numerous nieces and nephews.

Services are scheduled for Friday 10 a.m., at Moore’s Southlawn Chapel, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa.
