– 17, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy A. Underwood, 704 Seventh street. He was born Aug. 30, 1939, in McPherson, Kan., and has attended school there, in Pampa, Texas, and Guthrie, in addition to Perry. He went out for wrestling in 1952-56, played basketball this year, and was member of the undefeated junior high grid team of 1953. He was in the Future Farmers of America this year, English is his favorite subject. He plans to attend college or join the Navy Air Force after graduation.

Michael Joe Underwood

August 30, 1939 – April 30, 1970

Michael Joe Underwood, 30, of Slidell, Lousiaina died in a car accident on Thursday, April 30, 1970, at 10 o’clock p.m.

Born in McPherson, Kansas, on August 30, 1939, he was the son of Roy and Evelyn Park Underwood. Following his graduation from Perry high in 1957 he joined the U. S. Navy where he served as an aviation structural mechanic airman.

On April 5, 1959, while still in the Navy, Michael and fellow PHS alumni, Mary Lou Keller, were married. In October, 1960, he was transferred from the naval air base at Key West, Florida to Ream field in California.

At the time of his death he had been a resident in Slidell, La. for 7 years. He was employed as a superintendent by the National Aeronautics and Space agency at a missile test site.

Survivors include: his wife; daughters, Michelle Rene and Lori Anne Underwood; parents; sister, Mrs. Ann Chapman of Tucson, Arizona; and brother, John Underwood of Enid, Oklahoma.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 1970, at the Bayou Baptist Church, with Rev. Gerald Love officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Cemetery in Mulhall, Oklahoma on Tuesday, May 5, 1970.
