Sammie Lee Hunt

Sammie Lee Hunt, 61, died Monday, May 27, 2002, in Coleman, Texas.

Born in Perry, Oklahoma on October 20, 1940, he was the son of Samuel L. Hunt and Lola L (Williams) Hunt-Drassen. He attended Perry high school through his sophomore year when he enlisted in the army.

While stationed at the Army training center near Denton, Texas, he met his future wife, Bobbie Lynn Riley, who was attending Texas Woman’s University. They were married on December 15, 1960, in Denton. Thus began their life and adventures in the United States Army. While in the Army they traveled to Germany, Alabama, Kansas and Washington State, with their two daughters Colette and Debbie. While in the service Sammie also had two deployments to Vietnam. The family’s last station in the Army was at Ft. Lewis, Washington.

Sgt. Hunt retired in 1978 after serving 20 years in the military. The family returned to Texas living in Abilene, Rankin for a few years, then settled in Coleman. They divorced in 1998.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Colette and Joe Tabor of Coleman and Debbie Kenyon of Abilene; three grandchildren, Candice Tabor and Samantha Tabor both of Coleman, and Ryan Kenyon of Abilene; sister, Cherrie Dickson of Arkansas City, Arkansas.

Graveside services are 9:30 a.m. Friday in Ft. Sam Houston Military Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
