Lloyd Steven Terrill, Jr.
July 29, 1941 – July 2, 2009
L.S. “Punky” Terrill, 67, Clark, South Dakota, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 2, 2009, on his farm.
Born in Ponca City, Oklahoma on July 29, 1941, he was the son of Lloyd S. and Lillian (Richardson) Terrill Sr. He graduated from Perry High School in 1959 and attended Oklahoma University on a wrestling scholarship.
On July 6, 1962, he and Darlene Wilde were married in Oklahoma and moved to Clark County in 1964. They started renting land to farm and eventually purchased acreage to call their own. He was awarded The Outstanding Farmer of Clark County in the early 1970s and was also an FFA honorary member. He retired from farming in 1998 but continued to offer advice and support to Tony and his family about decisions regarding farming.
He enjoyed his tractors, especially his four-wheel drive ones, life, racing, hunting, flying airplanes, going to sales, playing cards, and teaching and spending time with his grandchildren.
A member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, he and his wife were former Luther League Counselors. He was a member of Community Oil board, the State Irrigation Board, and the Clark Lions.
Survivors include: his wife, Darlene, of Clark; his sons, Todd of Spearfish and Tony (Tammie) of Clark; one daughter, Traci (Tommy) King of Trussville, Ala.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Noma Brown of Eureka, Calif.; and his mother-in-law, Sylvia Wilde of Clark.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Clark with the Rev. Robin Schaunaman officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
