Kathryn “Lanette” (Webber) Owens
January 15, 1924 – July 20, 2016
Lanette Owens, 92, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016, in Tulsa, OK.
Born in Perry, Oklahoma on January 15, 1924, she was the daughter of Gailard Thomas and Kathryn (Ogle) Webber. Following her graduation from Perry high in 1942, she attended Oklahoma A. & M. college, where she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta. While in college she was a member of the Pan-American club, YWCA, Symphonic choir, and was on the dean’s honor roll. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in the school of commerce with a major in economics.
Lanette moved to Houston, Texas where she served as a legal secretary for Humble Oil and Refining company. She met William R. Carroll, who was also employed at Humble Oil. They were married in Perry on August 9, 1947. In 1968 Lanette and Jackson Coley “Jack” Owens were married.
She also worked for Humble Oil in Tyler, Texas. Later she was an independent oil producer.
As member of First Presbyterian Church, she was very active in her church circle where she was involved in a Sunday School Class and the Guild of Intercessory. She was a member of P.E.O. and active in the Tulsa Opera Guild.
Preceding her in death were her parents and husband, Jack Owens.
Survivors include: her daughter, Cathy Akin of Tulsa, OK; step-daughters, Caroline Crain of Tulsa, OK and Margaret (Mikel) Dunham of Santa Monica, CA; grandson, Don (Virginia Reeves) Akin, Ill of Owasso, OK; daughter-in-law, Sherry Owens of Tulsa, OK; six other grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Service will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church, Tulsa, 709 S. Boston, Tulsa, OK. Interment will follow at 3:00 PM, Grace Hill Cemetery, Perry, OK. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands or Meals On Wheels.
